Beyond Hogwarts: The ghost's of George Heriots
In this episode, we delve into the eerie histories of George Heriot's School and Lauriston Castle.
George Heriot's School, possibly an inspiration for Hogwarts, is renowned for its academic excellence and ghost stories.
Beverly, who worked there in the 1980s, shares her experiences of strange occurrences and ghostly encounters. She describes cold spots, moving objects, and a vase that mysteriously levitated and smashed. Beverly and her colleagues also saw a dark, shadowy figure that felt malevolent but suddenly disappeared.
We start by focusing on the aftermath of the Rough Wooing in 1544, when King Henry VIII's forces devastated Edinburgh and the surrounding areas, including Lauriston Castle.
Rebuilt in the late 16th century, the castle is now said to be haunted by the Grey Lady, a servant named Janet who took her own life. Visitors have reported sightings of Janet's ghost, with recent photographs capturing mysterious figures within the castle.
Join us as we uncover the eerie histories and legends of Lauriston Castle and George Heriot's School.
Are these stories just folklore, or is there something supernatural at play? Watch and decide!
Huge thank you to Beverly for reaching out and sharing her story.
